First of all you need to locating the pst-file, pst-file is outlook file that contains emails, contacts and other outlook stuff. You should include hidden and system files when searching pst-files, you can do it…
Go to “My computer” -> Tools -> Folder options -> View -> choose “Show hidden files and folders”, then remove mark from “Hide protected operating system files”, you just include hidden and system files.
Usually pst-files located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
For Windows Vista the default is;
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\
If you can’t find pst-files in these locations, go to start -> search and try to search *.pst.
You need to relocate these files to another place, first of all close Outlook, then select all pst-files and copy them to another location, for example: c:\pst-files, flash drive, another hard drive, CD or DVD, so your files will be in safe place.
If you need to restore outlook contacts and emails on another machine or on the same machine, just copy all pst-files to the location where you want to work with it like c:\restored-pst-files. After that open Outlook and add this file, go to File-> Open-> Outlook Data File and choose pst-file… Your contacts and emails have been restored!
What about different versions of Outlook? 2003? 200? Thanks!
Yes, I think you can do it for all of Outlooks… maybe in different versions, a little bit different ways, but main idea is the same
